Start to Heal After the Election

Whether you're feeling a bit lost, disheartened, or even a little angry about Kamala Harris's election loss, just know you're not alone. Healing from a political loss, especially one that feels personal, takes time, patience, and self-compassion. Here are some meaningful steps to help you process, regain hope, and move forward:

Acknowledge Your Feelings

It’s okay to feel disillusioned, sad, or even frustrated. Recognizing those emotions is the first step toward healing. Avoid pushing them aside; instead, consider writing in a journal, talking to close friends who share similar feelings, or joining supportive online communities. Acknowledging these emotions can help you better understand the personal reasons behind your disappointment.

Reflect on the Progress Made

While the loss may feel like a setback, it’s important to recognize the strides made along the way. Kamala Harris has been a powerful voice for change, and her candidacy and term as Vice President still influenced conversations on gender, race, and justice. These achievements continue to impact the political landscape and serve as building blocks for future progress.

Stay Connected to the Issues That Matter

Even though this election didn’t go as hoped, the causes you care about still matter. Stay involved in supporting policies you believe in, whether it’s climate justice, healthcare reform, or women’s rights. Consider volunteering, signing petitions, or educating yourself and others on these issues. Purpose-driven action can be incredibly healing and empowering.

Take a Step Back from News Cycles

Constant media exposure can make political disappointment harder to shake off. Consider reducing the time spent on news or social media, especially when it comes to political coverage. Instead, find outlets for hope and positivity—maybe a new hobby, a favorite book, or spending time with people who uplift you.

Remember, Progress Isn’t Linear

Every movement has highs and lows, wins and setbacks. Even though this moment feels like a loss, remember that change is still happening. Progress is rarely a straight line; it's the collective, ongoing efforts that make a difference over time.

Embracing a healing journey from a political loss isn't about giving up on your beliefs. It's about finding strength, nurturing hope, and becoming part of the steady, persistent momentum that builds lasting change.
